One who is pure and chaste. Latinized form of the Greek name "Hagne", derived from Greek "hagnos" which in turn means "chaste". A name which has variants in French, Italian, Gaelic, Scottish and many other languages. Agnes, Roman martyr (died c.304). St Agnes died the death of a virgin martyr whilst still a child. In the past, this name was extremely popular across cultures, but today, has fallen in popularity for being a little too "traditional".
