Meaning of name Bonnibel

Bonnie originates from the Scots, who adopted the French word Bonne, meaning "good". In Scottish, the full meaning is "Good, fair of face". It is also sometimes used as an adjective, eg. the fond nickname "Bonnie Prince Charlie".

This interesting name may seem very familiar, probably because of the song and story of "Bonnie and Clyde", a pair of thieves who are in fact a couple. The old Nursery Rhyme claims that "the child is born on the Sabbath Day/ Is bonny and blithe and good and gay", which makes it ideal as a Sunday's child's name. A likeable name, it generates good feelings, and is understandably a traditional favourite. In recent times, this name has fallen out of fashion.
