Karen Ann Carpenter, born on 2 March , a famous drummer. Karen Ann Carpenter's background: American drummer and singer. She was part of the insanely successful duo 'The Carpenters', which released hits like 'Close to you'. Her brother, Richard Carpenter, was the other half of the group. Till today, their songs remain an evergreen favourite. An excellent drummer though she was, she had to sing instead of drum at the concerts, and was never recognised for her love of drumming. She was also first of stars to suffer from anorexia, which was a fairly new phenomena then, and eventually died because of it.
Karen Armstrong, born on 14 November, a famous writer. Karen Armstrong's background: English author. A former nun in the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, she writes chiefly on religions such as Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. Her first book was 'Through the Narrow Gate' in 1982. It described the restricted and narrow life she experienced in the convent. Despite having abandoned religious worship since she left the convent, when she was asked to do a documentary on St. Paul, it compelled her to examine religion closely again. Since then, she has advanced her examinations of the three major monotheistic religions.
Karen Alexandria Kain, born on 28 March, a famous ballerina. Karen Alexandria Kain's background: Canadian ballerina. She is currently the artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada. Having retired from professional dancing in 1997, she has since then taken on many posts in the artistic direction of dance. She was named Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Government in 1998, and was elected to be chair of Canada Council for the Arts in 2004, which she stepped down from later on to concentrate on artistic direction in National Ballet of Canada. She is also currently the president of the Dancer Transition Resource Centre.
