Having retired from professional dancing in 1997, she has since then taken on many posts in the artistic direction of dance. She was named Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Government in 1998, and was elected to be chair of Canada Council for the Arts in 2004, which she stepped down from later on to concentrate on artistic direction in National Ballet of Canada. She is also currently the president of the Dancer Transition Resource Centre.
